Background
Our customer is one of the largest integrated fruit and vegetable processing companies in the United States of America. They have a transparent commitment to food safety in order to remain competitive and invest in various food safety technologies.
Challenge
During the annual food safety plan re-assessment, our customer identified that an inappropriate enrichment media was being used for the environmental sampling for the presence of Listeria. This resulted in unreliable accuracy and validity of test results, which led to additional retesting time, false positives and false negative results, and undermined the integrity of the food safety plan.
Our customer identified three key goals that they wanted achieve:

The verification approach included challenge studies with competing enrichment mediums and mirror studies using third party service labs.
